It occurred to me that I hadn't updated my blog recently to include any It's My Heart - Metro Detroit news. Silly me!

Our Chapter is looking for a few good (wo)men to get involved and help us with our many awareness efforts and, of course, with providing support to the many families here in the Metro Detroit area affected by CHD. One main way you can help us out is to donate items for our Comfort Bags. We deliver approximately 60 comfort bags to Mott and 40 comfort bags to CHM each month. Every bag should include the following, athough there are certain hospital guidelines we do follow:

Water bottle (CHM only)
Stuffed Animal (NEW/Medium Sized)
Single Subject Notebook
Pocket Folder
Pen
Sweet and Salty Snacks (CHM only)
Mints/Gum (CHM only)
Coloring Book w/Crayons
Activity Book

Another big thing that we do at IMH-MD is hold monthly support meetings for the CHD Community and anyone interested in helping out. The main part of the meeting is for support, but our secondary focus is to discuss the many volunteer opportunities throughout the Metro Detroit region and nationally. Our meetings are held the last Monday of every month, except December this year. This meeting will be held on December 29th (Tuesday) and we are very pleased to announce that we will have a guest speaker, Lauren Celeskey! Many of you know Lauren, she is an Adult Survivor and has an amazing blog, which you can find on the left on my blog. She is an inspiration to not only people living with CHD, but parents as well. Many times, as parents, we get so caught up in the here and now, the future is overwhelming to think about...she helps remind us that those with CHD can lead very active, very *normal* lives. Thank you Lauren for coming to speak with us!
