Bizarre Couple of Weeks

I haven't really been blogging about life in general the last couple of weeks with all the other things going on with our heart friends and with Drew's birthday taking precedence. But, it has been a weird couple of weeks, starting Memorial Day weekend when Bill found what we would consider our ideal home. We went to check it out and fell in love. Of course, we hadn't done a thing to our house to get it sold, nor did we know what the mkt was like for our house. Cart before horse. We did some calculations and found our "break even" point...what we could sell our house for and not take a loss. We did some calculations and discovered we could easily afford the new home. So, it was just up to our house to be "sellable."

Yesterday, we had an agent out to look at our home. While there are many positives, the kitchen is absolutely killing us and the basement is a big drawback because of the extra living space a finished basement could provide. Curb appeal is high, rooms are neutral and nicely decorated, she even said a couple of rooms had "Pottery Barn decor" (yes, PB a'la Target and Home Goods). But, what she would price it at as is, is less than what we owe. If we updated the kitchen, it would be priced at our break even point. Our savings would allow us to take a loss, but that's not what that's there for. So, we're staying put another year...and redoing our kitchen, finishing the basement, which was our original plan. Now, we'll get to enjoy the renovations for a bit and hopefully also make our house more marketable for the future.

Sorry to hear you had to let go of your ideal house. We are going to have some problems selling our house when we are at that point. there is not one single white wall in the entire house. Our bedroom and bathroom are painted Slate blue and choclate borwn and as I think you may know, I have a red living room!! we shall see in a few years I guess..
